Description
In a passive damper suspension system the vehicle behavior is always a compromise between low or “soft” damping levels for cruising comfort and high or “firm” damping levels for control of large motions. With BWIGroup’s Bi-State Real Time Damping System, this compromise no longer exists.  The Bi-State Real Time Damping System (BSRTD) is a two-position semi-automatic suspension system that optimizes vehicle ride between comfort and control by automatically switching between “soft” and “firm” damping levels.Thru the use of a simple sensor set, the vehicle response to road and driving conditions can be monitored and automatically modified to a near ideal state.
Technology
The Bi-State System is made up of 4 monotube based shocks with integral electronically controlled solenoid valves, an electronic control unit and 4 rotary position sensors. The Bi-State system works by monitoring the 4 position sensors every 2 millisecond , calculating the motion of both the vehicle body and wheels and sending out a control signal to each damper to set the damper either “soft” or “firm”. Based on a modified “Sky Hook” control theory, all dampers are controlled independently to maximize energy “absorption” while minimizing the “transmission” of road surface variation into the vehicle.
