Product Engineer in Brake Caliper Engineering


  • Responsible to maintain the Bill of Design, including design guidelines, best practices and lessons learned
  • Advise and support caliper project engineers on best practices for product design, development, and validation for customer projects
  • Lead advanced technology development for continuous improvement in next generation customer programs
  • Assess front caliper and rear parking brake caliper design portfolio for features and sizes needed for next generation development
  • Participation in product development process via team project meetings, project gate and design reviews, and Product Team meetings
  • Develop technical expertise reputation in industry through patent publication, paper publication, and industry presentations
  • Develop and maintain caliper / parking brake specifications as required
  • Travel to global customers to:
    • make technical presentations to support new business development
    • Support product development and current production issue resolution
  • Interface and collaborate with Shanghai based caliper engineering team, including travel to China as needed



  • B.S. degree in engineering – R
  • 3+ years working experience with caliper and parking brake function including:
    • Specific experience in launching calipers and parking brakes into production – R
    • Experience with caliper and park brake sizing and tuning based on customer vehicle sizing and requirements – P
    • Experience with Customer wheel brake test procedures and lab based bench testing – R
    • Experience with caliper and parking brake housing mass and stiffness optimization – R
    • Experience with parking brake efficiency and caliper hydraulic performance and optimization – R
    • Experience with caliper design features critical to drag and fluid displacement – R
    • Experience with noise analysis methods and mitigation – P
  • Experience with manufacturing processes associated with these products such as stamping, casting, machining, friction materials, etc. – R
  • Experience with interpretation of analytical tools to optimize performance (stiffness, mass, drag and displacement performance, noise, etc.) – R
  • Skill experience with SolidWorks CAD software, geometric tolerance (GD&T), and statistical analysis – R
  • Good interpersonal skills, good oral and written skills – R
  • Advanced degree in Electrical, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering – P
  • Experience with Unigraphics or equivalent CAD software – P
